Lake Taneycomo, May 10 -- white jig with fly rod
I wanted to try catching these trout using my fly rod in areas where I knew they hold waiting to ambush shad as they run by. Here are my results!

Running 15,000 cfs here on Lake Taneycomo is normally 4 full turbines but because 2 turbines are down for maintenance, they're running water over the flood gates. The Rapala I used was a XRAP XR08 RT Rainbow Trout. #troutfishing #laketaneycomo

August 14 - Brown Trout on a Jig, Deep
Переглядів 419Рік тому
Fishing this evening down past the Cooper Creek Flats. Water was dropping from running 3 units. Working the jig on the bottom like a pig-n-jig bass jig, just lifting slightly and letting it drop. Caught a dozen rainbows and this nice brown.

I met Jim and Phyliss Johnson in 1985 when I visited their fishing resort on the Pere Marquette River in central Michigan. We became good friends. They sold their place on the PM in 2005 and bought Naknek River Camp in 2006. Bill Babler and myself went up and helped guide that first year and I've been going to almost every year since.
Wet Wading, Scuds in Rising Water, Taneycomo
Переглядів 623Рік тому
Fishing Taneycomo at the Narrows today, wet wading. I got in about 15 minutes before the water started to move... they started generating 90 minutes earlier than scheduled. But I could see the rainbows in front of me really moving around eating. Catching got good. Then moved up to Lookout Island and picked off a few behind the island.
Handle Marks on a Rainbow Trout

When a trout is handled either with a dry hand or especially with a dry cloth, it wipes away the protective slim on the fish's body allowing bacteria to form. This most often will kill the trout.
Lake Taneycomo Brown Caught on a Scud

Drifting a #12 brown scud this evening yielded this beautiful brown trout, caught below Fall Creek. Four-pound line and a 7-foot Templefork spinning rod. Just a taste of what you can catch on this awesome tailwater.

Beaver Lake as of May 12 is 4ft above power pool and they are not releasing much water from Beaver so I would think they will keep the gates open for a while at TRL . Enjoyed the video Phil .

I wish... they are off this afternoon. They always hold Beaver... not sure why. They won't release it till June or July, at least that's what they've done in the past.

Just a comment if you don’t mind, been fishing Taneycomo over 30 years. Bumping along and then no bumps means a hole, and Trout like sitting in those holes. Lowering the rod tip lowers bait into the hole, and BAM, fish on! Thanks.
